Rome exudes romance all year round. But Valentine’s Day transforms the Eternal City into something extra special. As the setting of candlelit concerts and elegant exhibitions to indulgent dinners and unforgettable experiences for two, February is among the best times to visit Rome as a couple. Whether you’re planning something for February 14th itself or simply visiting around Valentine’s week, this guide covers the best ways to celebrate love in Rome in 2026.

Things to Do in Rome for Valentine’s Day

Celebrate in Style attending a Candlelight Concert

For music-lovers, one of the most atmospheric ways to celebrate is by attending a Candlelight Concert. This year’s main event is the Candlelight: The Romantic Classics concert at Palazzo Ripetta’s Bernini Hall: a stunning venue right in the city centre. Tickets are selling out fast, so make sure to secure yours ASAP.

If your trip doesn’t line up exactly with February 14th and 15th, don’t worry. Candlelight Concerts take place throughout the first half of the year, so you can still catch one during your stay.

Indulge in Roman Cuisine on an Award-Winning Food Tour

Rome is a city to be savoured, and Valentine’s Day offers the perfect excuse to indulge. Our award-winning Rome Food Tour treats your tastebuds to authentic Roman dishes while you explore the cobbled medieval neighbourhood of Trastevere. You’ll enjoy the expertise of local foodie guide, priority service at locally-beloved eateries, and the tastiest cuisine Rome has to offer — from traditional pasta recipes to street food and sweet treats and more.

Visit the Pigneto Neighbourhood for the Pigneto in Love Festival

Known among locals for its alternative spirit, street art, and lively aperitivo scene, Pigneto is curiously unexplored by the majority of Rome’s visitors. This is mainly because Pigneto has long been inaccessible, connected to the historic centre by just one metro line (C). Yet the recent opening of the Colosseo/Fori Imperiali metro station means getting to Pigneto from the centre has never been easier, and you can get there from the Colosseum in 10 minutes flat.

From February 12th to 17th, the trendy neighbourhood of Pigneto will transform for the Pigneto in Love Festival: a neighbourhood-wide celebration of love, creativity, and community. You’ll find artisan markets, handmade gifts, pop-up exhibitions, live performances, and workshops spilling out into streets and courtyards. It’s a great option for couples who want to experience a more local, less touristy side of Rome that feels heartfelt, playful, and full of character.

Treat Yourselves to a Couples’ Cooking Class

Few things bring people together like good food, and a hands-on cooking class is a fun and delicious way to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Rome. Learn how to prepare classic Italian dishes side by side, guided by local experts who know the secrets behind Roman cuisine.

Our Spritz & Spaghetti Cooking Class is perfect for couples who want a relaxed, social experience with plenty of wine and laughs.

If pizza is more your love language, our Pizza & Cocktail-Making Class teaches you the know-how to master Italy’s most iconic dish from scratch.

Admire the Cartier Exhibit at the Capitoline Museums

For couples who appreciate art, history, and design, the Cartier & Myths exhibition at the Capitoline Museums offers a refined and fascinating Valentine’s activity. The exhibit explores the Maison Cartier’s dialogue with classical mythology, placing iconic jewels alongside ancient sculptures.

As you move through the galleries, you’ll see how the imagery and symbolism of ancient Greece and Rome inspired some of Cartier’s most celebrated creations. It’s an elegant blend of archaeology and haute joaillerie, set within the world’s oldest museum complex.

Tickets start at €8 per person and the exhibition runs until March 13th.

Visit the Trevi Fountain by Night

The Trevi Fountain is one of Rome’s most romantic landmarks, but its popularity year-round makes timing your visit essential. Visiting early in the morning or after dark allows you to enjoy the fountain with fewer crowds and a more intimate atmosphere, when the sound of rushing water and soft lighting create a real sense of magic.

If you do plan to visit during the day, familiarise yourself with the new ticketing system in place to manage visitor numbers.

Reserve a Table at One of Rome’s Most Scenic Rooftop Bars

Punctuated by domes, obelisks, towers and spires, Rome’s urban skyline is unlike any other. There’s no better way to admire Rome than from above, with a cocktail in hand and aperitivo spread out in front of you, and Valentine’s Day is an extra-special time to do this.

A word of advice before you start: Rome’s rooftop bars get booked up quickly, so try to book your table in advance. You’ll find the links to do so in the blog article above.

Dinner and Opera at Palazzo Pamphili

For an evening that feels truly special, consider dinner and opera at Palazzo Pamphili, one of Rome’s most prestigious historic palaces a stone’s throw from Piazza Navona. On February 20th and 27th, guests are treated to a refined dining experience paired with live opera performances in an opulent setting.

It’s the kind of night that calls for dressing up and lingering over every moment—perfect for couples celebrating love in classic Roman style.

Advance booking is required, and availability is limited, so please plan ahead.

Go Riding in the Roman Countryside

If you’re dreaming of escaping the city for a few hours, a horseback ride in the Roman countryside offers a completely different kind of romance. Rolling landscapes, open skies, and a slower pace create the perfect backdrop for quality time together.

This horseback riding experience is especially appealing for couples, combining horse riding with an aperitivo—an unforgettable way to soak up the beauty of Lazio beyond the city walls.

Pamper Yourselves with a Couples Massage

After days spent exploring cobbled streets, ancient ruins, and bustling piazzas, a little relaxation goes a long way. A couples massage is an ideal way to slow down and reconnect.

Our favourite spa for couples in Rome is Doma Spa near Piazza Navona. Designed in the style of an ancient Roman bathhouse, it features a Turkish bath, steam room, and full spa facilities.

History of St Valentine’s Day & Valentine’s Connection to Rome

We’re all familiar with Valentine’s Day, but how much do we know about the saint that inspired it? St Valentine was a Christian priest living in the 3rd century AD, during the reign of the emperor Claudius II. According to tradition, Valentine defied imperial orders by secretly performing marriages for young couples at a time when soldiers were forbidden to wed. His actions, motivated by compassion and faith, ultimately led to his arrest.

Valentine was beheaded on February 14th, around the year 269 AD, and later venerated as a martyr. His association with love grew over time, particularly in the Middle Ages. In the 14th century, poets such as Geoffrey Chaucer helped cement February 14th as a day celebrating romantic love, blending Christian tradition with tales of courtly love.
